Using
the Discussion Forums of IPMSStockholm.org

The Online Forums
are message boards
where you can discuss with other readers and authors of IPMS Stockholm's site. The
forums are free for everyone to use.
Posting a message
Posting a message is simple. Just click on Post an Article button, or
Post
a Response while you're reading somebody else's message.
The messages appear in a threaded manner, which means that the messages are grouped by
topic, original message first, responses underneath. A thread is a logical
group of messages on the same topic, consisting of the original message and
all follow-ups presented together, often in a tree-like structure indicating
the order of follow-ups.
General rules
- Rule one of every good community is: don't just
read, post! If you have something to add, please do so!
- Anything that has to do
with models, modelling, clubs, Internet and so on is welcome. So if you have questions,
problems, experiences to share, something to sell or buy, go ahead!
- Try to make the subject line accurate and descriptive. Most people will
decide what to read based only on the subject line.
- Please use Swedish or English forums for postings in your preferred language. Some
forums are marked as multi-lingual and can be used as such.
- Other users will always appreciate if you post under your real name and
valid email address. If you feel you really need to stay anonymous you can
use an alias name. However, you should be aware that the IP address of
your computer is logged together with your posting.
- The forums are not moderated, meaning that your message will apply
immediately after
posting. The webmaster is, however, in power of removing posts that
according to his judgment clearly break against the netiquette rules
stated on this page.
- The moderators are not obliged to further explain why a certain
message was (or was not) deleted. In other words, such discussions
does not belong to the forums and may be deleted by the moderators.
Message content
- Subject matters with no connection to scale models or modelling are
discouraged. Please respect that other users come to this place to talk
modelling.
- It should be kind of obvious, but a reminder anyway: some subjects are
not suitable here at all. Your views on politics, ideologies, society in
general, ethnic groups, religions, nationalities, sex or other individuals
are irrelevant here. Please keep them for yourself - remember that your
best guide when posting here is common sense coupled with friendly
attitude!
- Offensive language is not welcome here. Unknowingly, some people tend to
be less civil on the web than when talking face-to-face. You can avoid
making somebody mad at you by using common sense when writing messages -
try not to say anything you wouldn't want your
mother/wife/children/friends to hear you say.
- Another bit of wisdom is to be very careful about using words that might
be taken as derogatory by any group of people. If you're offended by
another poster's use of such a word, please give them the benefit of the
doubt that they used the word without even realizing it could be
offensive, and let them know via a polite email.
Bad practices
- Deliberate posting messages under someone else's name tag is strictly
forbidden.
- Spamming is the obnoxious practice of sending the same message to
randomly selected discussion forums not regularly visited by the sender.
It is a very bad idea to spam. Spam messages will be removed.
- Flaming is a ranting, personal attack on a person or thing. At this
site it is a big no-no. Just don't do it.
- Trolling refers to intentional posting of an obviously inflammatory
message that dozens of others feel compelled to refute. Those messages are
aimed at setting off a cascade of posts, clogging the news group with
invective rather than useful information. Should the "troll"
appear on the discussion forum, the best way to deal with it is to ignore
it.
- Messages in the form of “Check your e-mail (n/t)” on any forums are
strongly discouraged and may be removed at the webmaster's discretion.
Use of the forums for trade
- Visitors may not use discussion forums for commercial gain. One exception from this rule is advertising modelling-related items, products or services for sale according to the regulations
described in this chapter.
- Advertisements offering items, products or services for sale are allowed only at the
“Buy, Sell & Swap” forum.
- All advertisers are obliged to use their real name and email address in their posts. Commercial advertisers are additionally obliged to state their company/business name.
- Advertisers may not use forums other than “Buy, Sell & Swap” to publish or discuss information regarding their product or services, or direct other visitors to purchase such products or services.
- Advertisers may not direct visitors of other forums on the site to read their advertisements.
Legal
- All posts must comply with common Swedish and international legislation.
- For visitors contacting a third party using the functionality
provided on the forums, including via e-mail, IPMS Stockholm accepts
no responsibility for any actions taken by that third party in
response to the visitor's communication or for any transactions
entered into between the visitor and the relevant third party.
- Although the moderators has lots of other things to do, they have the
right of removing posts which according to their judgement do not comply
to the netiquette rules. They also have the right to remove posts (or filter the
language) that according to their judgement can be deemed offensive by other
site visitors.
- As managing publisher, the moderators also reserves the right to remove any
post which presence on this site does not comply with the site's overall
message or the good name of IPMS Stockholm.
